John Barben is a contemporary photographer whose practice centres on crafting narrative-driven image series. With an acute attention to detail, his work explores themes of time, memory, and place—encouraging quiet reflection through carefully composed sequences. He is steadily building a body of work that documents and interprets the evolving landscape of contemporary urban Britain.
"The Invitation"
A narrow service lane leads towards a child’s playhouse, its bright colours almost absurd against the closed garages, bare trees and hard surfaces. The image observes an overlooked edge of everyday space where domestic, recreational and industrial functions meet. Childhood appears present but inaccessible, producing tension between invitation and exclusion.
"The Spectacle"
A travelling circus sits beyond a field of yellow flowers beneath an unsettled sky. The spectacle of entertainment becomes strangely distant, almost provisional, while the landscape remains indifferent. Holding these elements together, the image explores the gap between expectation and experience, where colour, weather and place combine to create ambiguity.
"After the Children"
An apparently ordinary playground is emptied of children, its curved structures and winding paths reduced to abstract forms within a carefully bounded landscape. Beyond the trees, infrastructure intrudes without explanation. The image considers how designed spaces anticipate human presence, yet can become uncanny when observed without activity, memory or purpose.

Since Michael restarted photography in 2024 have his photos been exhibited in different places in Belgium (and soon in Trieste, Italy, as part of the Urban 2026 Photo Award and in a gallery in Minneapolis, USA) and won various prizes. His photos have also been selected for numerous international curated and juried virtual expositions. His article “The Louvre in a different light” has been published in the Viewfinders magazine. His photos have been selected for publication in various international print and online art journals and are included in various exhibition (print and online) catalogues.

Nigel Waters is a professional fine artist and photographer with a BA Fine Art with First Class Honours from Plymouth University in 2006. Waters is widely exhibited in the UK and internationally. Waters is represented by the Artisan Gallery Exmouth, Associate member of the prestigious Penwith Gallery St Ives and a member of the Teignmouth Art Society. Ruiqi Zhang is a visual artist and photographer whose work examines the intersection of bodily containment, psychological constraint, and quiet resistance. Her contemporary fine art imagery explores the delicate threshold where external social regulations and internal desires collide.
“Lord's Ring”
Lord's Ring explores the polarity of physical distance and psychological anticipation through a hyper-focused close-up. A face opens its mouth toward a dangling iron chain descending from above, collapsing the space between safety and threat. By focusing intimately on the threshold of the mouth, the image expands into a broader reflection on power dynamics, submission, and the heavy burden of waiting.
“Persona”
Persona investigates the tension between visibility and erasure by focusing entirely on a concealed head enveloped in dark fabric. By removing conventional facial markers, the tight composition shifts the viewer’s focus from individual identity to a broader exploration of anonymity, institutional control, and the silent spaces we inhabit within society.
