Christopher Peirce
Chris is a photojournalist and conservation photographer from west-central New Hampshire. His work focuses on the conflict between the patterns of the natural world and the needs of rural and urban communities. He holds a BA in History and Political Studies from Colby-Sawyer College (2018). And an MA in New Media Photojournalism from George Washington University (2026). He currently works for the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation in Saranac Lake NY.
This small series of images is entitled "The Pool." It is focused on the shapes, and textures of tadpoles occupying a small vernal pool in Arlington Virginia in Spring. As a small chapter in a larger series about micro-ecosystems surrounded urban infrastructure, the pool represents a small, strained pocket of life. Barely larger than a small plastic swimming pool, it teems with fleeting life each Spring. Overcrowded and trapped in the shallow water, most of the tadpoles will perish before reaching maturity. The few that survive will continue the cycle.

“Dead Leaves” Project
An anthotype is an image created from light-sensitive substances derived from plants. I use linden leaves, their shape being the one that most closely resembles that of my face and body. The principle is to expose them to the sun for several hours. It is the sun's light that marks the exposed areas and reveals the image. This is a reflection on the passage of time and the fear of aging. I want to speak of sensitivity, fragility, and the fleeting nature of life. Time lies at the heart of the project; what matters is the length of the day and of summer. I am pressed by the fading light and the leaves turning brown. With this work, I bring out a fusional relationship with nature: exposed in this way on the leaves, I literally become one with it. The result is very fragile leaves that remain sensitive to sunlight. While each exposure is unique, I can reproduce the image several times. Depending on the size and shape of the leaves, I can outline my whole body or fragment it. The space between the leaves symbolizes crown shyness, the gap between the canopies of certain trees, more easily observed at treetop level. It allows light to pass through and prevents contagion between different species. Dried flowers fill this small space, binding the elements together.

I find this image demonstrates the fragility of flora as the petals show almost translucent in the light. I love how the petals stretch away from the centre. Blue feels like a rare colour to find on flowers so I was thrilled to catch this one

Thomas Fearn is a wildlife and landscape photographer based in Hampshire, England, working mostly at the edges of the day when the light turns the ordinary briefly strange. This black-and-white set follows the small meetings of animal and plant — a butterfly among meadow grasses, a creature half-hidden in its habitat.
